The Rooster Medallion

The perfectly preened curls. That proud, cock-sure stance. A loud, tone deaf crooning every morning. No, it's not your uncle Harry, it's our new Rooster Medallion! With a style all its own, this cocky circle of color livens up anywhere its hung. Ours is currently hanging on our chicken coop, painted roughly to match, and I must say the chicks are seriously digging it.

Personally, I enjoy the obviously artistic style. Not just of the colors, (although those are marvelous too, I love those emerald-sheen feathers) but also the variety of the "curl" theme used; notice the subtle way the outer curl-border accommodates the curled tail feathers. Or maybe it's the other way around. Which came first, the feathers or the curls? Only the artist knows.

In any case, if you have an idea for a new color scheme, size, or even a completely new design, shoot us a message! We'd love to hear from you. Yes. you.

The Sun Medallion and Quilt Square

Hello, hello, and welcome back to another episode of "This New Medallion".

Do you want to advertise your sunny personality? Is there a sunroom in your house, but nobody calls it by its proper name? Do you want a gift for a son who likes puns? If you answered Yes to any of these questions, then you should have a look at this latest addition to our blog, the imaginatively named Sun Medallion!

The Sun Medallion is designed much more stylistically that our other models, being decorated with spirals and interesting geometric paraphernalia, and is also our only medallion that has genuine marbles inset on the outer rim. As usual, there's various color schemes, almost all reflecting the stereotypical sun colors of yellow and orange, but there are also a few alternate styles, including my favorite; a somewhat smaller version with a strikingly vivid sky-blue border.

Next up, a word to the wise: the big companies care about their money, and tend to be stuck in their ways. Not us! As Mom mentioned a few posts back, when a few customers mentioned that they would like to see us make Quilt Square designs, we got right to work, and soon afterward came out with our most geometric products to date.

I personally don't see the point in them, but of course I am not a quilter! One nice feature I have noticed however is the way the entire design changes when rotated a mere 45 degrees. This was actually the cause of a humorous misunderstanding when one customer who, upon receiving a quilt square design from us, insisted we had done it wrong, until she realized a slight tilting of the head solved the entire problem.

Hello, Adam here. It is time once again for the infrequently shining spotlight of this blog to highlight a new medallion. This time, appropriately enough, the bright beam comes from our newest set of creations:

The Lighthouse Medallion!

With its mixture of many bright primary colors overlaid on natural wood grain, this lighthouse seaside scene is perfect for anywhere that's nautical, or that you feel should be nautical.
For all the times you feel lost, or life's uncertainties get you down, this seaside-themed medallion will be there to provide its guiding light, and save you with it's colorful life-preserver border.

Note: Although the medallion will float, being made of wood, it is not designed for use as a life-saving device, except in cases of extreme irony.

If red and lifesavers aren't your thing, there's also this alternate rope border style Mom likes. I will agree it sets off the lighthouse's roof nicely, and is a more subtle way to uplift and inspire its viewers.

Until the lighthouse shines again,
Adam

New Listing, New Writer

Hello. It's been busy around here lately. So busy, in fact, that Tina Jaeger the Medallion Maker has requested help from her son, Adam, to update this blog for a bit. Nice to meet you.

And now, to products. We have medallions, oh, do we have medallions, but you'll have to be satisfied with seeing them one at a time for now. The medallion of the hour is:

The Horse Ring. This was a custom model for someone who requested it read "Boogie" for some reason, making me imagine an odd cowboy-themed disco studio where everyone has afro hairdos topped with ten-gallon hats.

In any case, we've got a few types of this in stock in varying colors of the ring and horse. I've always liked black horses best myself, but the paint job on the Pinto one is pretty impressive too, and on a grass-green background... it nicely pretties up where it's currently hanging.

On a side note, this blog is looking a bit lonely, and while this is probably due to a lack of updates, a comment or two would be highly appreciated; if you've had any compliments, questions, complaints, or congratulations, please let us know.

Signing off for now,
Adam
(despite what is says below this)

EDIT: Mom says the horse's name is Boogie, so that's one mystery solved. I still like my mental image, though.

An Eventful First Year

This August marked our one year anniversary selling medallions at local craft shows. For the second time I attended the Antique Car and Quilt Show at the Wolcott Mill in Ray Township, Michigan. This had been the very first one I had ever participated in.

Last year several of the quilters in attendance recommended that we make quilt squares. When I returned this year I brought the result of their encouragement: Ohio Star and Flying Geese medallions. These are unlike our others in that they are square, not round. Some are painted with just blocks of color, but I also have designed my own "material" patterns as a variation. (I'll insert pictures soon. we've been making them and forgetting to photo them.)

The American Flag with encircling stars is another addition to our line-up. The sizes are 18", 24", 32" and 48."

Here's our "Land of the Brave" variation.

A specific piece was commissioned that bore the words, "Land of the Free Because of the Brave."

And now....my second post!

The Transitional Star Medallion
I've added another design to our line of medallions. We call this the Transitional Star. It was my husband's idea to give people an option to the ubiquitous metal stars out there.

It's a one-color cut-thru medallion. There are several colors to choose from including  red, yellow, green, rust, black and white.

Diameter sizes are 16", 24", 32" & 48"

Medallion Livin' Larg
One of my 48" medallions is now mounted at the peak of this really huge barn.

That's got to be the best part of this--seeing my designs displayed out in the grand wide open!

A Beginning

Hello, and welcome to the blog! This post is partly to put a good first step forward, and partly to test everything. New posts may be here soon, knock on wood. Anyway, hope people can see this.

These are the originals (the prototypes) mounted on our barn. Soon afterward people began asking me about them and I began to receive commissions. So I painted them one by one. Painstakingly. Now that my husband routes the lines in for me, it goes much faster and more efficiently.
